Put an end to it

My workplace was ideal to me
Till the social injustice was revealed to me
There may be many types of social injustice
The common ones are Gender inequality
And racial inequality at work place.

Racial inequality was one of the main problems
It can be from a person or from group
Or it can be institutional.
I underwent institutional racism.

I studied in my country and had a master's degree.
When I came abroad it was not recognised
I have to start from the scratch
Started working from the basic grade.

As I had my education from my country
My competencies were excellent.
I was promoted to higher grade in no time
After few promotions I reached the grade
of a manager. It all happened very quickly.

Then I started applying for senior management roles
I went for interview and I received the letter
Of regret and when questioned they said
You did well but we cannot give this job
You need to get the experience.

I said if I am not given the job
I may not get the experience
I did not get any answer to that.
I started applying in different places for jobs.

Everywhere I was shortlisted and called for interview,
I received the feedback that I did the interview well
But they are unable to offer me the job.

I decided to do an audit in that particular institution
And find that all the people nearly seventy of them all
Locals, I am the only outsider.
I soon realised why I am not getting the job.

I decided to apply for a grade lower to check
Whether I get the job or not
I have got the job in that grade.
Next time I applied for higher grade
again the same answer and regret letter.

I decided that I am not stopping to apply
Then I saw a teaching job on the same grade
And I came to know that they could not
get anyone for the post. Soon I applied and
I got the job. When I received the job
I decided to look Into the institutional racism in detail.

I did the secret audit and found it is explicit
Once I got the data I took it up with the management and
Changed the institutional racism and
I brought the equal opportunities in place.

It was hard work but I did get the outcome of all the hard work
I knew it is difficult but if you did not start questioning
No one would know about it and we all undergo social injustice.
I was not happy to put up with this anymore and like to put an end to it.

* I was a victim of institutional racism and I stopped that to a certain extent before my retirement and I am very proud of it. D
